Those outwith the above two categories, supported by a GP or Consultant referral, are seen for particular podiatric problems or because of a medical condition which may put them at risk, such as multiple sclerosis or diabetes.

Mission Statement
To provide a full range of Community Podiatry Services, ensuring as far as possible maximum foot health outcomes delivered by a team of State Registered Podiatrists and Podiatry Assistants and in partnership with Podiatry patients in the Stewartry, Dumfries and Galloway.

Treatment: The following techniques are employed;

  • Conservative treatment - nail problems, ulcerations, infections and conditions like verrucae, corns and athlete's foot
  • Radical treatment - removal of toenails under local analgesia and 'freezing' of verrucae
  • Protective therapies - manufacture and supply of foot appliances (eg. Insoles) and modifications to shoes
  • Corrective Therapies - Assessment of the walking cycle and posture with prescription and fitting of corrective shoe inserts
  • Preventive Measures - Screening for certain conditions and appropriate advice and guidance on footwear, hygiene and self care
  • Podiatrists are sometimes supported by a Podiatry Assistant who under guidance will care for minor foot conditions
